Browsing By Ear

An Introduction to Screen Readers, from Yahoo!’s Victor Tsaran, is the best initial demonstration/explanation of the technology that I’ve seen (despite an odd bit where the camera operator seems to get bored and zooms in on distant scenery).

And if you think it’s all about sitting patiently while a slow synthesised voice trudges through every word on the page then make sure you catch the ending, where he lets us hear how he really makes use of the reader.
