OpenDNS Update
I’ve mentioned OpenDNS before as a possible way of speeding up web surfing, and it should now be significantly faster for European users thanks to their new London-based servers.
Although they strenuously claim to cache DNS records for as long as TTLs specify (and no longer), I’ve had some trouble with them hanging onto old records for too long (over 5 days, when there was nothing specifying such a long wait), so I’m glad to see they’ve also introduced CacheCheck, an easy way to inspect and refresh cached records. OpenDNS is used by a relatively small number of people, but if you’re moving a site it might be worth forcing a manual refresh to ensure the new hosting is immediately visible to those users.
