Feeds, Icons and Orange
Earth-shattering news. I’ve tweaked this weblog’s navigation sidebar to use the ‘standard’ feed icon previously mentioned (yeah, I know the Subscribe link doesn’t go directly to a feed, but I think it’s still appropriate). It’s another small step away from the stupid RSS/Atom/XML mess, particularly if everyone can also agree to use the terms ‘feed’ and ‘subscribe’.
One nitpicking design detail does bother me slightly though. Microsoft’s announcement shows two different sizes, but the designs are also different, with one radiating from the corner while the other radiates from the centre of the dot. The former (as redrawn by Matt Brett) feels more stylised, but the latter (currently used in Firefox etc.) perhaps emphasises the ‘transmission’ aspect a tiny bit more. Details matter, so hopefully that’ll get resolved.
