Stagnation and Overfeeding

A couple of things that have become clear from following dozens of feeds:

  1. Most of the popular weblogs that everyone links to (the ‘A-listers’) have been stagnant and complacent for a long time. It doesn’t matter what they write, their subscriber numbers will probably continue to grow due to the continued growth in blogging, but I’m seeking out less obvious sites as replacements for the few I still follow.
  2. Some of the commercial, multi-contributor blogs are producing way too much material for comfort. I know number of posts directly affects pay in some cases, and having more Google-bait boosts long-term traffic, but I don’t want to read (or even skim through) 20–30 posts per day. I’ll have to reluctantly prune a few such sites from my subscriptions to stop them from dominating my aggregator.

Yes...less is more! I have stopped bothering with most of the big commercial type blogs. It's impossible to keep up. I think this will become a trend. Om Malik http://gigaom.com/ (an a-lister) recognized this a while ago and has begun to reduce his total number of posts. His quality has definitely gone up.
