Daftest Ever Use of a Domain Name?
If you put ‘news.com’ into your browser to get to CNET’s News.com site, it redirects to ‘news.com.com’. I can only guess that someone really high up in the company thought it was a fantastic idea and everyone else was too scared to laugh and point.
Years ago I pitched for some work for a startup. They really wanted to call themselves ‘SomeNameIForgot.com’, but the domain name was taken so they revealed plan B: buy ‘SomeNameIForgotdotcom.com’. I was lost for words, and so just smiled politely and tried not to look too bemused.
