March Link Dump
Stuff I noted down that’s worth a link and a sentence:
- GeoURL (2.0)
- It’s finally back (only a few sites near here though).
- CSS Reboot
- An attempt to get more non-Flash sites involved in the May 1st Reboot community project (everyone launches redesigned sites on the same day).
- Nvu - The Complete Web Authoring System
- A free cross-platform alternative to FrontPage and Dreamweaver (there’s also a Windows version that’ll run from a USB drive).
- Magic Quotes Headaches
- PHP is free, included with most hosting plans, and powerful enough to work with, but it also has some infuriatingly brain-dead features.
- The Next Big Thing in Online Type
- Good to see Microsoft producing new fonts and improving rendering (currently it’s almost worth buying a Mac just for the way OS X displays text).
- Nutch
- Promising-looking open source search engine software based on Lucene.
- Page Hijack: The 302 Exploit, Redirects and Google
- If you’ve got a site and haven’t yet protected it then have a read.
- That Sinking Feeling
- This one seems to have spread everywhere (York University folklore had a variation involving the chemistry dept.’s water tower sinking when filled).
