This Here Weblog: The Story So Far
It’s now only 4 months or so since launch but I’ve already, as hoped, learned a lot. I’ve coded in several key features, spotted interesting linking/traffic patterns, and been pleasantly surprised to get comments and subscribers.
The ‘voice’ is still in the early stages of evolution though; I’ve inevitably started off well within my comfort zone in terms of topics (web development etc.) and style (a touch more conversational than the neutral, precise tone I have to use every day for pitches and specifications). I’ll always be an editing freak, but I need to avoid getting stuck for hours repeatedly rewriting stuff (which has happened a few times) and start working in some of the non-web-development content I’ve held back (no poetry or cat pictures though, I promise).
Oh, and I’ve learned that mentioning smoking unleashes a torrent of stupid comments. It’s initially funny, then when the amusement wears off you can thoroughly test your deletion/banning tools.
