Since appearing on Matt Round’s site malevole in September 2003, the Programming Language Inventor or Serial Killer? quiz has had over 4 million visits and been featured on TV and in print around the world. Inspired by a web page featuring numerous mugshots of programming language inventors, it uses Flash to introduce graphical touches and sound effects.
An earlier malevole item, A Tribute to Ray Harryhausen, gained similar media exposure and has so far racked up over a million visits thanks to the potent combination of dancing skeletons, ’80s cartoon characters and a weird soundtrack.
